Advocacy Campaigns

Send a Welcome Email to Your Local MLA

Connecting with your local MLA is a key step in advocating for outdoor recreation. To help, we’ve created an MLA Welcome Letter Template—a quick, customizable tool to introduce your organization, share local priorities, and start building a relationship.

Why Use It?

This template helps you:

  • Highlight the value of outdoor recreation in your community.

  • Advocate for support on key issues like volunteer funding, access to public lands, and sustainable recreation planning.

  • Build a strong partnership with your MLA from the start.

How to Get Started:

  • Personalize the letter with your organization’s details and your MLA’s info.

  • Send it to your MLA via email—contact details are available here.

Let’s work together to champion outdoor recreation across BC!

Consultations

This page provides an overview of some of the major consultation opportunities that are relevant for the public outdoor recreation community. If we have missed listing any significant engagement opportunities, please notify us.

While ORCBC will provide input into a number of consultations each year, we encourage individuals and groups from the outdoor recreation community to get informed about the issues and speak up to provide insights and advance the interests of this diverse and important community.

To see a list of other consultation opportunities, you can visit EngageBC, the Province’s Angling, Hunting and Trapping Engagement page and BC Parks’ Management Planning page. As an exclusive service to our member organizations, we provide them with email notifications of commercial tourism tenure applications. You can also do your own search of current applications by visiting Front Counter BC.

Current Opportunities

Wildlife Act Review

The province has initiated a review of the Wildlife Act, in accordance with the commitment made in Action 12 of the Together for Wildlife Strategy priorities such as:

  • Reconciliation with Indigenous peoples

  • Setting objectives

  • Improving wildlife stewardship outcomes

  • Ensuring effective and accessible service delivery

  • Dedicating funding

In addition to these priority areas, there are also several administrative updates needed to support the proper functioning of the Wildlife Act.

If you have any suggestions, comments or questions regarding the Wildlife Act Review, contact WildlifeActReview@gov.bc.ca.
