Outdoors for All: An Inspiration Guide for Creating Welcoming Outdoor Recreation Spaces

The outdoors is for everyone—but creating spaces where everyone feels they truly belong requires intentional effort. That’s why the Outdoor Recreation Council of BC (ORCBC) is proud to introduce Outdoors for All, our new inspiration guide designed to help outdoor groups take meaningful steps toward building more inclusive and accessible communities.

Produced with support from the BC Parks License Plate Program, this guide features case studies of outdoor groups across BC who are already enjoying the many benefits of creating welcoming spaces. Their stories demonstrate that even small changes—like renaming a trail or relocating a picnic table—can make a big difference in fostering connection and belonging.

To accompany the release of the guide, ORCBC hosted a webinar this week on how to make the outdoors more welcoming to all, with a panel of experts who have first-hand experience making their corner of the outdoors more accessible and welcoming to everyone. You can watch the recording here.
